An Arrangement with the Deliveryman

2022, White Garage, Catania, IT

An Arrangement with the Deliveryman shows the work of the first collaboration of Celine Aernoudt and Emile Van Helleputte. The work was created and produced during a 10-day residency at White Garage prior to the exhibition.

Starting from the relationship that exists between the marionette and the puppeteer, the two artists reveal the absurd and harsh dictates of capitalist society, within which power plays the role of puppeteer and each individual becomes the puppet who has no control over its own life. This crude and strong critique of contemporary society is exorcised by the two young artists through the reproduction of motivational phrases, reproduced on posters made in woodcut and that surround the perimeter of the space, but hiding between each line of the bitter truths that induce the user to reflect on their position and condition within the society in which they live. Each sentence resonates inside the White Garage as a warning not to be overlooked and generating a sense of anguish and suffocation to everyone who is in front of it. To accentuate this sense of suffocation and individual smallness is the wooden model of the same exhibition space, which the two artists wisely place in the center of the room, so that the public can reflect on the sense of control and constant observation by power over the masses.
